Staying healthy

Introduction

After reading the health section of any half-decent guide, you might be forgiven for wanting to stay at home. Every disease known to man seems to be rife wherever it is you are going, and the number injections and pills needed to fend off these maladies is sickening enough in itself. The DRpure.com health section is similarly pessimistic, covering a multitude of potential health hazards. In reality, however, the adventure traveler to the Dominican Republic should not worry too much about much of what is described in gory detail below. Public Enemy Number One is undoubtedly the sun, and you run infinitely more risk of getting sunburn or dehydrated - and of experiencing a mild dose of diarrhea - than of catching a life-threatening disease.
